In a tragedy in Kerala recently where, more than 150 people got injured in an explosion that occurred during festival time. Over 150 people were burnt, 10 of them gravely, as a temple in the Kasaragod district of Kerala caught fire last night from a burst of fireworks. 

Stunning images from the spot where crackers sparked a big fire and thick smoke, which people attending the temple abruptly fled away. The case happened at Anjootambalam Veera Kavu as the festive season was beginning in the north Malabar area.

Bystanders have claimed that a firecrackers display was fired around midnight and one of the firecrackers could have rolled into the shanty where more firecrackers were piled up. Some of the visuals captured people’s facial expressions in a crowd when the shed began and was covered in a huge flame and black smoke.

Kasaragod collector, Inbasekar K said crackers should be stored at least 100m away from where crackers burst but here the distance was only a few feet away.

Both the president and secretary of the temple committee have been arrested by the police.

The temple authorities have claimed that there were stocked small firecrackers which used to be of about ₹ 28,000 and these were kept in a temporary store that was roofed with a tin sheet. This cache exploded, which resulted in the tragedy.
