PM Modi Condoles Sharda Sinha’s Death; State Funeral Announced

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, expressed his deep sorrow at the death of Sharda Sinha, who was one of the greatest folk singers of the country, especially in Bhojpuri, Maithili, and Magahi songs.

Sinha worked in her singing career for four decades and earned the title of Bihar Kokila, the nightingale of Bihar and she was blessed with the wonderful talent of taking Bihar’s traditional folk singers to the lengths of the country.

Her unique voice, her unquenchable spirit, and her passion for keeping Bihar’s heritage music alive helped her become a musical icon not only in Bihar but also throughout India. With songs like “Paniya Ke Jahaj Se Palki Ke Sanghiya,” and her album of devotional songs on Chhath Puja, she made a grand stake in Indian folk music.

In his condolence message, PM Modi recognized the great contribution made by Sinha towards Indian music and especially the effort done by her to promote the folk form of music.

Her death is undoubtedly a loss to India’s cultural richness as she was working to bridge the gap between the young generation and the tradition through her music. In respect to the memory of Sharda Sinha, she will be buried with all the honors befitting a chief minister and a minister for Women and Child Development.

Her endeavors and commitment to folk music will in one way or another be the accomplishments of other musicians and will forever be imprinted in the hearts of her fans across the nation.

Folk singer Sharda Sinha departed at 68. President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi consoled the loss of the legendary singer and praised her Bhojpuri and Maithili songs. PM Modi applauded her political contribution to folk art, and she will receive full state honours.

The Prime Minister of India, Mr Narendra Modi, expressed deep sorrow over the death of renowned folk singer Sharda Sinha on his X account. He mentioned that her Maithili and Bhojpuri folk songs had been immensely popular for decades, and the echo of her melodious songs, especially those associated with the Chhath festival, would remain forever. He described her passing as an irreparable loss to the music world and extended his condolences to her family and fans, offering prayers for peace.

Even Union Ministers Rajnath Singh and Amit Shah also extended their condolences in their respective X handles.

Of the famous folk singers of India, the Bhojpuri singer Sharda Sinha recently succumbed to death, and the actor-turned-politician Manoj Bajpayee went to pay his last respects to the artist at the AIIMS Delhi. The Laapataa Ladies actor and politician Ravi Kishan expressed sadness.

Local actors, musicians, celebrities, and fans have offered their condolences recognizing her impact on the genre of folk music. Her loss is greatly felt in folk music, but her songs will continue to inspire the next generation.

Padam Shri and Padmabhushan Awardee Sharda Sinha are to be buried with full official honours. Her son Anushuman said to ANI that they would perform her funeral here and then bring her ashes to Patna, a place where her father was cremated.

Manoj Tiwari, through his statement, also assured the nation that she would be given full state honours during the last rites. He also added that her mortal remains would be taken to Patna for people to pay tributes to her. Mahan, a performing artist, is scheduled to be cremated on 7th November.

Singer Dies A Month After Husband’s Death

Sinha’s last Facebook post was also in memory of her husband, Brajkishore Sinha, who died on September 22. On the occasion of Karwa Chauth, Sharda Sinha posted a picture on her Facebook profile and posted the following message – “My forehead looks empty without Sindoor. But now, with the memories of Sinha Sahab, I am still struggling to keep my singing profession intact. To honour Sinha Sahab today, I am posting this.”

On October 7, Sharda Sinha wrote another post that she posted in memory of her husband where she wrote lines of her song ‘Kahe Toh Se Sajna’ from Maine Pyaar Kiya while she missed him dearly.
